Dr Manmohan Singh appoints Rentala Chandrasekhar as NTRO chief


Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.has end the speculations and appointed Rentala Chandrasekhar as chairman of National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) country's top intelligence and surveillance agency.
Chandrasekhar will hold the post for a period of three year from the date of assumption of the charge or until further orders.
Former DoT secretary Rentala Chandrasekhar, a 1975 batch IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh cadre, has retired on 31 March this year as telecom secretary .
Chandrasekhar name was cleared by appointments committee of Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Earlier post was hold by PV Kumar, a former RAW officer.
NTRO, whose road map was drawn up by former president APJ Abdul Kalam during his tenure of scientific advisor to the government in 2001, is mainly tasked to prevent cyber threat and also provide and analyise technical intelligence.
The NTRO was set up in 2004 and was tasked to be a highly specialized technical intelligence-gathering agency whose expertise would be used by other intelligence agencies like IB, RAW and Military Intelligence
